Warhammer Online Built Using Gamebryo Element

 by Jared Black

Emergent Game Technologies and EA Mythic (formerly Mythic Entertainment) is teamed up in creating the latest massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) using Emergent’s Gamebryo Element. The game engine was also used to create EA Mythic’s critically acclaimed MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot®.

“It’s tremendously gratifying to us when long-time customers share our vision in the online space. EA Mythic has crafted breakthrough experiences using Gamebryo in the past, and we are excited to see their team put our technology to work on WAR,” said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent.  “After using our technology for years, EA Mythic now joins a host of MMO developers around the world using the latest version of Gamebryo to bring their games to life. We’re delighted to continue our relationship with EA Mythic, and look forward to working with them for years to come on many fronts as we build our reputation as the go-to company for developers of online games.”

“Our artists and programmers love working with Gamebryo for its flexibility so using it for WAR was an easy decision,” said Mark Jacobs, EA Mythic’s General Manager. “WAR will offer players incredibly rich environments in which to wage war, as well as the ability to engage in Realm vs. Realm(tm) (RvR) battle, our unique take on Player versus Player (PvP) combat, as well as Player versus Environment (PvE) combat. To make this work, we require a robust rendering engine and we are confident that Gamebryo, particularly given the new functionality and capabilities introduced in version 2.2, is up to the task. Gamebryo’s Scene Designer, integration with Ageia’s PhysX, and world-class support all contributed to our decision to once again use Emergent’s rendering engine.  As a long-time Gamebryo customer, we look forward to expanding our strategic relationship with Emergent as we lead the way into the next generation of MMO development.”

The Gamebryo Element is fully optimized for development on Xbox 360(tm), PLAYSTATION®3, and PC, and has recently gained attention as the engine used in Bethesda Softworks’ record-breaking Xbox 360 and PC title, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. A stand-alone solution, Gamebryo is also now available as part of Emergent Elements, a family of tools addressing the full range of game development challenges.
